PAST MEETINGS

We have come a long way…
A little look back at previous Global Meetings

2018 – Jeju, South Korea

Once again, another successful Global meeting took place with a full agenda and new delegates coming in from all over Asia who previously hadn’t been able to attend any meetings. Once again, this meeting proved inspiring as well as educational and Professor Kim and his team organized a wonderful event and gave both The Charlie Foundation and Matthew’s Friends a year off!

Obviously the hand over took place at this end of this meeting with Professor Helen Cross looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the UK in 2020 but sadly the pandemic had other ideas… hence we are overdue a meeting by a year and very much looking forward to adding more memories to this page after the 7th Global Symposium on Ketogenic Dietary Therapies. We will see you there… either in person or virtually!

Come and celebrate a 100 years of the Ketogenic Diet with us and find out what is in store for the diet that almost died out!

2016 – Banff, Canada

The Charlie Foundation took us to Canada this time around. The scenery was stunning and the meeting was once again full with delegate numbers increasing yet again. With the meeting now really established in peoples calendars as a bi-annual event and growing, it was decided to move the meeting to a different part of the world to increase the Global feel of the meeting, Professor Heung Dong Kim and his team stepped up and offered to host the next meeting in 2018.

2014… Liverpool in the UK

Matthew’s Friends brought everyone back to the UK, namely Liverpool, made famous by The Beatles. By the time this meeting took place the number of delegates attending had more than doubled since the meetings began and bookings had to be closed earlier than planned, it was time for bigger venue AGAIN! And once again the Gala Dinner was a huge sellout success with a Tribute band to…. The Beatles (who else!) kept everyone on the dancefloor all evening.

2012 – Chicago

We were back in America with a very special guest at the Gala dinner evening. We celebrated 18 years since the making of the film ‘First Do No Harm’ by Charlie’s Dad, Jim Abrahams (The Charlie Foundation) which starred Hollywood legend, Meryl Streep and sky rocketed interest in the Ketogenic Diet. It also inspired Matthew’s mum, Emma Williams, to start Matthew’s Friends in the UK. Meryl was an honored guest at this meeting making a fantastic speech about her involvement in this film and the necessity for the ketogenic diet to be available to all those who need it.

2010 – 2nd Global Symposium in Edinburgh!

Everyone travelled to Edinburgh in Scotland where we filled the hotel for a week of presentations and the Gala dinner was a traditional Scottish Ceilidh Night.

2008 – Welcome to Phoenix, Arizona

Although smaller meetings had taken place previously both in the USA, with The Charlie Foundation and in the UK with Matthew’s Friends, the first ‘official’ global Ketogenic Diet Meeting took place in 2008 in sunny Arizona. With Matthew’s Friends and The Charlie Foundation working ‘side by side’ it was agreed that these two organisations would take it in turns to host this meeting. So in 2010, the meeting took place in the UK.
